They are carefully constructed images of authority, leadership and national identity. Each portrait functions simultaneously as documentation, political messaging and cultural artifact. In this presentation, Tony Chirinos examines how photographic portraits of the President of the United States construct meaning through composition, setting, gesture, lighting and symbolism.
